Stars

By Dawn Brink

I thought of the night sky, of you
and the darkness that surrounded me
and enclosed my heart.

Those bright stars pierced me
pierced my heart
and broke through the darkness.

Maybe maybe my heart could bear
that light
could cleave a way through the obscurity of the
night.

Two times the light scratched through the darkness of the night
stirred me
and I knew what I had known before
that light, that light could
break through all darkness
and shimmer
in my heart.
