Blue Moon Child

By Tamara Hunter

Gibbous belly
Like the moon
Babe turning softly
Coming soon
Fluid embrace
Waxing a jewel
Gentle, giving
Tidal pool
Roll once more
Before you wake
Savour the calm
Ere life breaks
Bursting forth
To light and air
Stinging lungs;
But we’ll be there
Watching for your
Crescent smile
Cradling you
Our blue moon child.

In my mind’s ear I hear this piece spoken softly as, if it were a lullaby.
